Karwan is a major suburb in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, India. It is a part of the old city of Hyderabad.

It is 10 km away from the IT hubs like Gachibowli, HITECH City etc.

Culture

Karwan has a mixed population of both Hindus and Muslims. The festival of bonalu is very famous here and is celebrated in grandeur. The main goddess worshiped during bonalu is Darbar Maisamma temple and the thotella is the biggest in the twin cities. The celebrations start a week before and on the penultimate day the thotella is installed in front of Maisamma temple. On the last day many cultural programs take place, along with distribution of prizes to the meritorious students from UG to PG. The festival culminates with numerous palaharam carts which display various traditions and the removal of thotella along with procession. Karwan has very long history dating back to the Nizam rule it was a well known diamond pearls market, even till today there are old buildings and other old temples and masjids constructed during Nizam period. Andaroon or Inside karwan has few old buildings and was the place of the old pearl and diamond market existed. It is also famous for handloom clothes. Shree Vithalnathji Temple & shree Santhoshi matha temple along with Lord Narsimha swamy temple and Kesari Hanuman temple are very famous and old temples which are well known in the area.

Commercial area

There are many grocery shops like Gopal grocery stores, Devara grocery stores,karwan jama musjid is the famous in the karwan and it is very old in the old city as well as tolimasjid is olso very old in whole city of hyderabad. south indian vegetables and others which cater most of the needs of the people. Famous Goddess temples include Darbar Maisamma temple. The famous mosque Toli Masjid in this area dates back to 15th century. Other mosques include Kulsumpura Jama Masjid, Choti Masjid Taleem and others. .there are Famous hotels like pakiza, Kismat, Aababil, Shabab, Naseeb.

MESCO College in Mustaidpura, Saad Public School, Shuja Grammar School,Happy Rosary Niketan High School, Iqra High School kakatiya vidyaniketan prominent school run by kakatiya welfare association shivarama shetram temple of shiva rama in kakatiyanagar srisrivasa ayurvedic clinic run by eminent doctor alivelumanga md ayurveda There are Government run schools like Govt High School Mustaidpura, Govt High School Kulsumpura. there is also an old temple namely ranganathswamy temple which was also expected to be built during nijam period and it is a famous temple in twin cities and famous for vaikunta ekadashi celebrations in jiyaguda in earlier days it was called as jiyar gudem which comes under karwan constituency and also there was a govt school namely bharatha abyudaya high school which seems to be one of the biggest govt schools in andhra pradesh

Transport

There are many buses which connect to different parts of the city like CBS, Golconda, Secunderabad etc. This area is close to Mehdipatnam bus depot. Karwan has also a bus station near Kesari Hanuman Temple from where we can get buses to as far as Secunderabad and L.B.Nagar passing through Afzalgunj.

There is no close MMTS Train station near Karwan but Nampally railway station is very near to the Karwan which approximately 5 k.m.
