Karthik (also written as Karthick) is a male given name that is commonly used in the southern part of India. The name stands for the Hindu god "Karthik," or Murugan, son of Lord Shiva who is also called Karthikeya. In the Hindu Vedas Karthik is the god of the war and the represents strength, happiness and success.
The name represents certain characteristics (similar to the Zodiac signs). They are reserved but friendly. They are faithful to those they trust or love, but once crossed they tend to be unforgiving. According to numerology Karthik is the best name of the intention of the Hindu people.[citation needed]
