Karin Åhlin was the daughter of major P.P. Åhlin and Wilhelmina Gustafva Norberg. At the death of her mother, she brought up and educated her siblings. She begun the accept students in her home, which developed to the Åhlinska skolan. Her work was pioneering: most schools open to girls at this point did not offer any serious or useful academic education.
