Karen Mowat (c. 1630 1675) was a Norwegian heiress to large land properties, which later became the basis of Barony Rosendal. She was probably born in Tysnes, a daughter of admiral Axel Mowat. She was married to Ludvig Rosenkrantz, the first Baron of Rosendal, and was the mother of Axel Rosenkrantz. As both her brothers died young she was the sole inheritress of her parents' properites, the largest fortune in Western Norway at the time. The estate formed the basis for the Barony Rosendal after her death. In turn, four of her sons assumed the title Baron of Rosendal.[1][2]
