Karen Marie Moning (rhymes with 'awning') is a # 1 New York Times bestselling author of 15 novels, including the RITA award-winning Highlander novels and the internationally bestselling urban fantasy "Fever" series. Her books have been published in nearly 40 languages, and her events draw fans from all over the world.

Biography

Moning graduated from Purdue University with a Bachelor's degree in Society and Law. Before becoming a full-time writer, she worked as a bartender, a computer consultant, and an insurance specialist.

Moning began her career writing paranormal romance set in Scotland but as she became increasingly fascinated with Celtic mythology, she switched genres to Urban Fantasy and location to Dublin, Ireland, so she could focus on the Tuatha Dé Danann, or Fae--an ancient race of immortal beings who have lived secretly among humans for millennia.

Moning recently completed a graphic novel for Del Rey, featuring an original story about MacKayla Lane and Jericho Barrons, and the first installment in a new Fever World trilogy, ICED. She is under contract with Random House Publishing for two additional books set in the Fever universe.

Highlander Series

The Highlander books are a series of paranormal romance/fantasy novels set in modern day and medieval Scotland, many featuring time-travel. While each novel stands alone, they involve similar story lines and recurring characters (most notably, Adam Black, the Fae Queen's consort).

In certain respects, the Highlander series is a prequel to the Fever series in that they introduce the world of the Fae, as well as the MacKeltar family, who feature in Faefever, Dreamfever and Shadowfever.

Fever Series

The Fever series revolves around MacKayla Lane, a seemingly normal girl of 20-something living in small-town Georgia, USA. When her sister is brutally murdered while studying abroad in Ireland, MacKayla resolves to track down the killer by travelling to Dublin. When she arrives, however, she quickly realizes that all is not what it seems in the Irish capital, nor is she all that she thought she was. For one, she learns that the Celtic folklore concerning 'fairies' is true, but not in a pleasant way: not only are the real Fae a lot more powerful and dangerous than what the bedtime stories make them out to be, but millennia ago, they split into warring factions of Light (Seelie) and Dark (Unseelie), and that war is now threatening to spill over into the human world. For another, MacKayla discovers that she is a sidhe-seer (a person who can see the Fae for who they are, even when they are casting a 'glamour' in order to appear human), and that she is expected to take up the fight against the Fae in order to preserve the human world.

As she delves deeper into her search for her sister's killer, she realizes that her sister's death is linked to the search for dark and mysterious book - the Sinsar Dubh - which has gone missing from the Faerie realm. Believed to hold all the magical knowledge of the Unseelie King (including the power to create life) many others are attempting to track down the book as well: the wealthy and enigmatic Jericho Barrons, the tantalizing Seelie Prince V'lane, the powerful 'Lord Master' Darroc, the secretive sidhe-seer society, and others. In order to avoid the fate of her sister, and to save the world from impending disaster, MacKayla must not only distinguish friend from foe in a field where no one is what they seem everyone is out for their own gain, but also to come to terms with her new-found identity as a sidhe-seer.

Fever Moon

On 10 July 2012, Del Rey Books published a new story set in the Fever world featuring Mac, Barrons and Dani. In the form of a comic book illustrated by the world-renown artist Al Rio, Fever Moon is a stand-alone story that (based on the plot details) conceivably takes place during the events of Shadowfever. The main focus of the story is the Fear Dorcha, introduced in Faefever, who is revealed to have been the first Unseelie created by the Unseelie King and is prowling Dublin in search of 15 victims from whose faces he seeks to construct a new face with which he can assume human form and wreak havoc and destruction. When Dani becomes a victim, Mac resolves to track down the Fear Dorcha and save her friend's life

Fever World Series

The Fever World series is a new trilogy set in the Fever World, featuring Dani O'Malley, a rebellious young sidhe-seer, as the main protagonist. In addition, the books will feature other characters from the previous series, including Christian MacKeltar, Ryodan and the mysterious 'Dancer'. Moning has stated that while each of the books will be a 'stand-alone mystery', they will contain 'larger plot arcs' which will answer many questions left unanswered in the Fever series.[1]
