Kapchorwa is a town in Eastern Uganda. It is the main municipal, commercial and administrative center of Kapchorwa District. The district is named after the town.

Location

The town of Kapchorwa is located in Kapchorwa District, Sebei sub-region, in Uganda's Eastern Region. Its location lies approximately 65 kilometres (40 mi), by road, northeast of Mbale, the largest city in the sub-region.[1] This location lies approximately 310 kilometres (190 mi), by road, northeast of Kampala, the capital of Uganda and the largest city in the country.[2] The coordinates of the town are:01 24 00N, 34 27 00E (Latitude:1.4000; Longitude:34.4500).[3]

Demographics

During the 2002 Uganda National Census, Kapchorwa's population was estimated at 8,700. In 2010, the Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS), estimated the population of the town at 12,300.[4] In 2011, UBOS estimated the mid-year population of Kapchorwa at 12,900.[5]
