Location

The proposed areas for the construction of the airport has been inspected by the aviation authorities in Sri Lanka by December 2011.[2] Minister Keheliya Rambukwella joined Minister Priyankara Jayaratne in inspecting the location where the airport is to be constructed. The Ministers inspected a 42 acre block of land of the Agriculture Department, 1,250 acre farmland of the Peradeniya University and another 250 acre block of land at Ambakote belonging to the Mahaweli Authority. The Ministers expressing their views to the media after the inspections said that construction work on the Airport would commence after the receipt of technical report on the related lands. On 5 August 2012 it was announced that Kundasale will be the most likely location for the construction of the airport.[3]
