Kamzík TV Tower
The Kamzík TV Tower is a 200 metre tall television transmission tower in the Koliba area of Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia. It sits 433 m AMSL on the Kamzík hill, part of the Little Carpathians, overlooking much of the city. The tower lies within the territory of the Bratislava Forest Park. It was constructed in 1975, replacing the old transmission tower.[1] The tower was constructed according to the project of architects Stanislav Májek, Jakub Tomašák, Juraj Kozák, Milan Jurica and Ján Privitzer.[2]
The tower has an observation deck, and the revolving "VEŽA" restaurant at approximately 70 m from the base of the tower, used to open to visitors. In conditions of good visibility, Austria, Hungary and the Czech Republic are visible from the tower.
The VEŽA restaurant ceased operation in May 2010 due to a lack of customers, and all its operations including the restaurant chefs and staff have now moved to the 'West Restaurant' at the 'Best Western West Hotel' about 100m down the tower approach road. The VEŽA restaurant's website is still active, however, and the phone lines redirect incoming calls to the Best Western Hotel. It is not clear if the VEŽA establishment will reopen under a new guise in the future.
In 2011, a new restaurant called Altitude was opened with a slightly improved interior with a new Mediterranean cuisine. The restaurant is divided into an observation cafe bar Brasseria and main section with rotating tables to provide a 360-degree panoramic view.
