Kampala Serena Hotel is a 5-star hotel in Kampala, Uganda's capital city.

Location

Kampala Serena Hotel is located on Kintu Road, on Nakasero Hill, nestled among 17 acres (6.9 ha) of manicured lawns and gardens in one of Kampala's most exclusive hillside neighborhoods. This location is adjacent to the Kampala Sheraton Hotel and the Imperial Royale Hotel.

Overview

The Kampala Serena hotel opened on 31 July 2006, following eighteen months of renovations and refurbishing at a total cost of US$30.5 million.[1] The hotel is part of the Serena Hotels Group. It consists of a total of 152 rooms, including thirteen suites, one of which is a presidential suite.[2] During the 2007 CHOGM meeting in Kampala, the hotel hosted Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom, who spent four nights at this establishment.[3]

The hotel has its own helipad for easily transition between the hotel and Entebbe International Airport. Adjacent to the hotel is the Kampala Serena International Conference Center with seating capacity of up to 1,500 and multilingual translation facilities of up to nine languages simultaneously.[4]

Ownership

The Kampala Serena Hotel is owned by a consortium that includes three corporate entities; (a) Tourism Promotion Services, a division of the Aga Khan Fund for Economic Development, (b) the National Social Security Fund of Uganda and (c) Proparco, a French property investment company.[5] The table below summarizes the proportion ownership of each investor:
