Kalininsk (Russian: Кали́нинск) is a town and the administrative center of Kalininsky District of Saratov Oblast, Russia, located on the Balanda River (Medveditsa's tributary), 121 kilometers (75 mi) west of Saratov. Population: 16,441 (2010 Census);[1] 18,855 (2002 Census);[3] 19,347 (1989 Census).[4].

History

It was founded in 1680 as the village of Balanda (Баланда́).[citation needed] In 1962, it was granted town status and renamed Kalininsk after Mikhail Kalinin, a Bolshevik revolutionary and Soviet politician.[citation needed]
