Kalingapatnam is a panchayat village located in Srikakulam district, Andhra Pradesh, India.

History

Kalingapatnam was one of the ancient Andhra's harbor towns. Perfumes, textiles and so on were exported to other countries from the port. Kalingapatnam port was closed during British rule of India, but the light house constructed by the British at Kalingapatnam port.

Kalingapatnam has a darga called Madina Saheb where people of all religions worship the god. Kalingapatnam is one of the famous tourism places in and around of Srikakulam District for its well established Light-house and for some other natural beauties there.

A marine police station also established here in 2009 and 24*7 Safe guards are available at 17 Mile Long Beach.

The estuarine area formed here by river Vamsadhra froms rich feeding and breeding ground for both shell and fin fishes.

New Developments

Visakha-Kalinga Beach Road: Realizing the need to develop infrastructure for promotion of tourism at global level, VUDA has taken up the widening of existing road between Visakha and Kalinga into a four-lane corridor. This project not only provides state of art transport facilities between the two major tourist port locations, but also earns global recognition to tourism at Visakhapatnam. The 100 km road goes all along the beach from Visakha to Kalinga. The Tourism corridor will be developed between Visakha and Kalinga beach at a cost of Rs.500 crores, The work will be starting in FY 2013 and completed in FY 2015

The State Government has taken steps to develop Kalingapatnam, Gangaram Port and Essar Ports had evinced interest in taking up the projects. Bids will be invited for the projects.

The Government of Andhra Pradesh accepted Public request to change Gara mandalam to Kaligapatnam mandalam from YR 2020 for the Development of Kalingapatnam Port/Shipyard.

The Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy asked the Infrastructure & Investment Department to put on fast track the construction of Kalingapatnam Port in Srikakulam District. The Government has been promoting the development of Kalingapatnam Port through Public Private Partnership by providing State Support and Identified 2000 acres of land in Kalingapatnam.

The State Support includes - Long Lease of lands, Fiscal Incentives, Providing external Infrastructure like Road connectivity, Power and Water supply up to the boundary of the Port. Cost of R&R of the project shall also be borne by the Government. Long term Concession Agreements are entered on BOOT basis for the periods ranging from 30 + 10 + 10.

Andhra Pradesh Chief minister K Rosaiah addressed a letter to the shipping ministry expressing government's desire to welcome a second major port and shipyard in Kalingapatnam. The decision was taken after Rosaiah was informed by the National Shipping Board chairman P V K Mohan during a review meeting of the investment and infrastructure department that the Government of India was scouting for a location to set up another major port & shipyard.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister K Rosaiah addressed a letter to Tata's Chairman Ratan Tata offering to allocate required land in Srikurmam for setting up Tata’s Titanium refinery. Raw material for the refinery is available in the region, Mr. Rosaiah told Mr. Ratan Tata.

Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation has proposed to develop Kalinga beache to make them the best tourism destination in the country with Rs. 1.3 crore sanctioned recently by the Union Tourism Ministry under the Central Financial Assistance scheme. District Collector N. Srikanth and District in charge tourism officer D. Ramesh have prepared an action plan for the development of Kalinga beache.

The Government has also prepared plans for the improvement of facilities in the Buddhist site located at Salihundam. A sum of Rs. 83 lakhs will be spent on the development of site says Collector Mr. Srikanth.
