Kahlotra

The Kahlotra Rajput are a Suryavanshi Rajput tribe found in India. They are a sub clan of the Manhas Rajput tribe.

History

The Kahlotra Rajput tribe was a very influential tribe in Naushera and Rajauri tehsils of the Riasi District until 1947.

In 1947 the entire Muslim part of the Kahlotra tribe migrated from the Jammu region to Azad Kashmir and Pakistan, at the time of the partition of India. The majority of this Rajput tribe are still of the Hindu faith and they are found in Indian Kashmir(Jammu region and neighboring states in India).

The Kahlotra played an important role in Adam malia (Non payment of land tax) and Quit Kashmir movement.

Distribution

Kahlotra Rajput are found mainly in the south eastern portion of the Kotli District, as well as some other parts of southern Azad Kashmir, including Mirpur and Bhimber Districts.
