KVCE is a radio station in Highland Park, Texas that services the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex.^[1] The station is currently owned by Dallas Broadcasting, LLC and is operated by Salem Communications Corporation.^[2]

The station operates on 1160 kHz with 35,000 watts during the day and 1,000 watts at night and owned by Texas State Senator and Houston-based radio station owner Dan Patrick. Patrick's afternoon talk show airs on KVCE, in addition to being heard on his Houston-area station, KSEV.

History

The station was formerly on 1150 kHz as KVIL and used the call letters KVIX from October 1985 to August 1986. The calls changed back to KVIL until November 1994. The station was owned by Infinity until October 1996 when it was sold to Marcos A. Rodriguez who was its owner until August 2003. Marcos A. Rodriguez programmed it non-Spanish foreign language but due to the popular Pakistani and Indian music and talk 1150 became all-Pakistani formatted.

KVCE began in 2001 as KBIS under an all-Motown format still on 1150 kHz. When the station moved to 1160 it was revamped as Magic 1160, adding other soul songs to the playlists, but the call sign didn't change to KMGS until June 2005.

On August 23, 2006, the call sign changed to KVCE, to make way for a News–Talk format, which began less than a month later.

On March 2, 2009, Biz Radio moved to KVCE 1160, Highland Park from KJSA 1110, Mineral Wells. KJSA switched to a country format in the weeks preceding the Biz Radio move. KVCE has a slightly better signal in the prime DFW market, but only marginal change in quality in the Fort Worth area. KVCE is noticeably worse west and southwest Fort Worth than the KJSA signal.^{[citation needed]} On January 3, 2011, KVCE flipped to a Business News/Talk format.

Broadcasting issues

KVCE receives substantial interference from the HD Radio broadcasts of KFAQ 1170 of Tulsa, Oklahoma at night because the primary lower digital sideband of KFAQ is between 1155 and 1160 kHz with about 1,256 Watts and the secondary lower digital sideband transmits between 1160 and 1165 kHz.
