The station's digital signal is multiplexed:

Analog-to-digital conversion
KTVN shut down its analog signal, over VHF channel 2, on June 12, 2009, the official date in which full-power television stations in the United States transitioned from analog to digital broadcasts under federal mandate. The station's digital signal remained on its pre-transition VHF channel 13.[2] Through the use of PSIP, digital television receivers display the station's virtual channel as its former VHF analog channel 2.
History
KTVN signed on the air on June 4, 1967, originally as an ABC affiliate, but took over the CBS affiliation in 1972, after disputes between the CBS network and its affiliate at the time, KOLO-TV.
Controversies
KTVN aired a controversial report about Ryan Rhea related to the death of KTVN Sports Director J. K. Metzker. KTVN later apologized for the incident with an updated report.[3]
As of June 16, 2009, although the license is still active until October 1, 2014, the Federal Communication Commission (FCC) reported that the license expired on October 1, 2006. As of December 14, 2013, the FCC and KTVN have not yet responded to the allegations about operating a station with a expired license.[4]
News operation
Currently, KTVN broadcasts a total of 20½ hours of local newscasts each week (with 3½ hours on weekdays and one hour and thirty minutes on weekends). Unlike most CBS affiliates in the Pacific Time Zone, the station does not carry newscasts in the noon timeslots on weekdays or nightly in the 6 p.m. timeslot.
KTVN's news slogan is "Coverage You Can Count On." In 2005, KTVN hired veteran Reno market anchor Bill Brown from rival KRNV to anchor many of its evening newscasts.
