KTPN-LD is the MyNetworkTV-affiliated television station serving East Texas that is licensed to Tyler. It broadcasts a low-powered standard-definition digital signal on UHF channel 48 from a transmitter on the northeast side of Tyler. The station can also be seen on Suddenlink channel 9 and Longview Cable Television channel 4.

Owned by White Knight Broadcasting, KTPN-LD is sister to Fox affiliate KFXK-TV and both are operated through a local marketing agreement by the Communications Corporation of America. That arrangement makes the two stations sister to NBC affiliate KETK-TV and all three share studios on Richmond Road (near the Texas 323 Loop) in Tyler. KLPN-LD rebroadcasts KTPN's signal across the central and eastern portions of the market and is licensed to Longview. It broadcasts a low-power standard-definition digital signal on UHF channel 47 from a transmitter near East Mountain, Texas.

Even though KLPN-LD has a digital signal of its own, the low-powered broadcasting radius of both it and KTPN-LD does not reach the entire Tyler-Longview market. Therefore, the station can also be seen through a standard definition simulcast on KFXK's second digital subchannel in order to reach the entire market. This signal can be seen on UHF channel 31 (or virtual channel 51.2 via PSIP) from a transmitter in unincorporated northwestern Cherokee County. The station's website is merely a placeholder with the standard MyNetworkTV video portal and public file information required by FCC guidelines.

History

KTPN-LP signed on the air from Tyler in 1990 as independent station K48DP, it later became a network affiliate after The WB launched in January 1995. KLPN-LP signed on in Longview as low-power station K22EH in 1995 also serving as a WB affiliate, repeating the K48DP signal. In 1997, the Tyler and Longview stations both dropped their WB affiliates to join UPN and were collectively branded as "UPN 22/48". The station signed on K22EH in 1998 as a low-power repeater station located in Longview, the two stations were then collectively branded as "UPN 22/48".

Accordingly, K48DP changed its callsign to KTPN-LP (standing for "Tyler Paramount Network"). In 1998, K22EH moved to UHF channel 58 under the callsign K58FS in order to make way for KETK's digital signal on UHF channel 22 (both stations were branded as "UPN 58/48" as well); two years later, K58FS changed its callsign to KLPN-LP (standing for "Longview Paramount Network") to match its sister station. In 2001, K58FS changed its callsign to KLPN-LP. After KCEB (channel 54) signed on the air in 2003, it began simulcasting UPN programming with KLPN and KTPN, and the three stations collectively called themselves "UPN 54/58/48".

In 2005, KCEB dropped its UPN affiliation to affiliate with The WB, subsequently thereafter in January 2006, KTPN-LP and KLPN-LP lost the UPN affiliation to CBS affiliate KYTX (which added as a second digital subchannel) and reverted to being independent stations. On September 5, 2006, KTPN and KLPN became charter affiliates of MyNetworkTV (which was created following the announcement of The WB and UPN's merger into The CW to give WB and UPN affiliates that would not become affiliated with The CW another option besides reverting to independent stations, and operates as a sister network of Fox through the Fox Entertainment Group and Twentieth Television subsidiaries of News Corporation).

On April 24, 2013, ComCorp announced the sale of its entire group (including KETK) to the Nexstar Broadcasting Group. KFXK and KTPN will be sold to Mission Broadcasting. Nexstar will continue to operate KFXK and KLPN under a shared service agreement, with sister station KETK.[1]
