KRVR is a commercial radio station located in Modesto, California, broadcasting to the Modesto and Stockton areas on 105.5 FM. KRVR airs a Classic Hits music format branded as "The River". The stations name refers to several rivers in the broadcast area: San Joaquin, Sacramento, Stanislaus and Tuolumne. KRVR is licensed to Copperopolis, CA, where the broadcast tower is located, high on a ridge 1600 feet above the Central Valley. KRVR was the first radio station licensed to Calaveras County when it signed on in 1995. The River did a Smooth Jazz format for most years, and was awarded the Smooth Jazz Station of The Year award from Radio & Records magazine in 2006. In March 2011, KRVR changed format to Adult Hits, and one year later fine tuned the format to Classic Hits of the 60's, 70's & 80's. Along with its sister station, KVIN Vintage 920 AM, KRVR & KVIN are Modesto's only locally-owned radio stations. Threshold Communications was awarded the license for KRVR in one of the last "comparative hearings" at the [FCC]. The 2 principals of Threshold Communications still do their own programming on The River, and each takes a weekend DJ shift, and perform duties as General Manager, Program Director & Music Director of KRVR.
