KNBN, channel 21, is the NBC affiliate in Rapid City, South Dakota. It is owned by Rapid Broadcasting, and is also the sister station to KWBH-LP. KNBN's transmitter is located in Rapid City.

KNBN can also be seen on translators KKRA-LP on UHF channel 24 and K40GS-D on UHF channel 40; both stations are licensed in Rapid City, though K40GS-D mainly serves Lead and the Black Hills region.

Digital television

Analog-to-digital conversion

Because it was granted an original construction permit after the FCC finalized the DTV allotment plan on April 21, 1997, the station did not receive a companion channel for a digital television station. Instead, KNBN turned off its analog signal and turned on its digital signal on the same channel (called a "flash-cut").

KNBN flash-cut to digital on February 1, 2009 to televise the 2009 Super Bowl in high-definition.[1]
