KMSO (102.5 FM, "Mountain FM 102.5") is a commercial radio station in Missoula, Montana, owned by Sheila Callahan & Friends, Incorporated. KMSO airs an Adult Top 40 music format featuring music from the 1980s, 1990s, and today.
KMSO started out as easy listening KUEZ until 1992. In the 90's the format changed to an Adult contemporary/Adult Alternative hybrid under the moniker 1025 the point the best lite rock in the rockies. With KDXT flipping to Country Music in 1996 KMSO became the only station playing pop music of any type even know the point shyed away from such pop staples as Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston & Michael Bolton. The Station aired Casey Kasem's Hot AC countdown and would continue to do so for the next five years and also aired Backtrax USA. In 1997 KMSO flipped to a mainstream AC format but tended at times to be more gold based especially during the day. With the nearest pop station only providing rimshot coverage and sometimes in conflict with another AC station in Kalispell, KMSO would lean more Adult top 40 at night. By 1999 the station would become more closer to Adult top 40 by limiting oldies to noon and 5. However when top 40 KXDR signed on in 1999 KNSO would gradually move back to an AC format culminating with the addition of Delilah on Valentine's Day 2000. The station would have the AC market to itself until 2001 when KLTC signed on. Between 2001 & 2003 Mountain FM would drift between CHR of star fm & soft AC lite fm becoming a more Hot AC leaning AC station achieving favorable ratings. Ratings would then fall when KLTC flipped to a successful Adult top 40 format as wild 107.5 ressulting in Mountain FM flipping to Hot Ac which it airs to this date.
