KGNS-DT3 is the Telemundo-affiliated television station for Laredo, Texas and the Mexican city of Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas. Owned by Gray Television, it operates as a third digital subchannel of NBC affiliate KGNS-TV. Over the air, it broadcasts a standard definition digital signal on VHF channel 8.3 from a transmitter located near the Pinto Valle Industrial Park (to the immediate north of the United States-Mexico border), northwest of Laredo. It operates out of studios located on West Del Mar Boulevard and Springfield Avenue (near I-35) in northern Laredo. This station can also be seen on Time Warner Cable channel 25.
This subchannel began in 2007 when KGNS-TV announced that it would launch a Telemundo affiliate on digital subchannel 8.3.[1] This subchannel broadcasts a local Spanish-language newscast produced by KGNS-TV called Telenoticias, airing on Monday through Friday evenings at 10 p.m.
In May 2013, SagamoreHill Broadcasting reached a deal to sell KGNS-TV (and thus KGNS-DT3), along with KGWN-TV in Cheyenne, Wyoming and KSTF in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, to Yellowstone Holdings; Yellowstone is a subsidiary of Frontier Radio Management.[2] On November 4, 2013, Gray Television announced a deal to acquire Yellowstone Holdings for $23 million. KGNS-TV will be operated under a local marketing agreement by Gray until the closure of the deal.[3] The sale was completed on December 31.[4]
