KGEC-LD (KGEC-TV on the air) Channel 26 (known as FamilyTV 26) is an independent station based in Redding, California. It was founded by Fresno, California, businessman George E. Cooper in 1997 and became an America One network affiliate in January 1998 before changing its affiliation in July 2000. Cooper's initials are the station's call letters. His wife, Millie Cooper, is the station's president and general manager. Channel 26 is seen on UHF (low-power) channel 26 from Redding south and is on Charter Digital Cable channel 94 in the Redding and Red Bluff areas only.
On February 17, 2005, KGEC co-founder and chief executive officer George Cooper died after a long battle with cancer. Cooper Communications LLC, owners of KGEC, have since sold the station in 2011.
In March of 2011, KGEC was granted its digital license on channel 26 for four virtual channels. KGEC provides family-friendly programs from Retro Television (26.1), Tuff TV (26.2), My Family TV (26.3) and NASA Television (26.4). It also airs Jewelry Television in the overnight hours on 26.1.
It is a former affiliate of FamilyNet, having been an affiliate from 2000 to 2011. They were an affiliate of America One Television prior to that before that network went to KMCA-LP.
