KDIX (1230 AM, "The Classic 1230") is a radio station licensed to serve Dickinson, North Dakota. The station is owned by Starrdak, Inc. It airs a music format featuring a mix of adult contemporary, oldies, and country music.[1] It gets its network news from CBS.
The station was assigned the KDIX call letters by the Federal Communications Commission.[2]
History
KDIX Radio first went on the air in 1947 (source: kdix.com). It was purchased by Lee and Darlene Leiss in 1992 and the format was changed to Country Rock and Good Old Time Rock and Roll, music that the whole community could embrace and consider "Dickinson's Very Own." This format change increased the KDIX Audience Market Share to an incredible 38% (Audiotaire Chicago, 500 contact survey of the 8 country area) One of the main reasons is because at a time when the average age in America was 47, the area average age in Southwestern North Dakota was 54.
KDIX has all new station jingles, $360,000.00 of new broadcast equipment and computers including an 80 thousand dollar HD))) transmitter and remodeled studios. The station became North Dakota's first HD))) High Definition Radio Station in 2007. KDIX has continued to gain listenership over the past fourteen years because of maintaining a quality staff without turnover. KDIX is now Dickinson's main local information and music station, with KDIX's programming schedule consisting of news, The Files of Jefferson Clark, weather, agriculture reports, and music consisting of the big country rock and good old time rock and roll hits. KDIX is also, Dickinson's main sports station, the Voice of The Dickinson State Blue Hawks, Dickinson High Midgets, Dickinson Trinity Titans and area Class "B" schools along with the Dickinson Roughriders Legion Baseball Team with 200 sports broadcasts, plus broadcasts on the World Wide Web at www.kdix.net, and over Consolidated Cable Vision's DSU college channel.
