KCOG (1400 AM) is a radio station broadcasting an oldies music format. The station is licensed to serve the community of Centerville, Iowa, United States.[1] The station is owned by KCOG, Inc., and features programming from Fox News Radio and Citadel Media.
This station used to air Scott Shannon's The True Oldies Channel from ABC Radio. However, when Honey Creek Broadcasting, Inc. purchased 105.3 KEDB (formerly KELR), KCOG changed formats with KEDB 105.3 airing Scott Shannon's The True Oldies Channel from ABC Radio.[2]
During the same time period, in beginning-middle of 2009, the station also begin simulcasting their signal on 99.7 FM. The signal is the same signal that can be heard over the station's 1400 AM and is served from the same transmission .
KCOG then began airing Today's Christian Radio Network, syndicated from WFFH in Nashville, TN. After two months, the station then began airing a simulcast signal of their sister station KMGO 98.7 "Iowa's Country," also in Centerville, IA.
Between the months of July and August 2009, the station began airing "Timeless Favorites" and changed their slogan to "KCOG 99.7 FM Timeless Favorites." They also regularly air jingles proclaiming "America's Greatest Hits" and "Classic Rock and Roll." This is provided by Citadel Media's Classic Hits Radio Network. A vast majority of KCOG's programming is derived from this syndicated service. The station airs three news segments every day and a live two-hour sports show every Wednesday (see below).
The station now also advertises that it is the official voice of the Centerville Big Reds, a high school team from the local Centerville Community School District. On June 6, 2010, KCOG debuted "The Pitch," a weekly one-hour sports show hosted by Russ W. Ocker and Chad Lee Koestner to strengthen their coverage of local sports. The program is produced in association with Hosel Rocket Productions. This show recently picked up a large sponsorship from Centerville, Iowa's local Hy-Vee and will expand to a two-hour show Wednesday nights, starting October 20, 2010. The show will be broadcast live from the Hy-Vee in Centerville from 6-8 p.m.
Translators
KCOG programming is also carried on a broadcast translator station to extend or improve the coverage area of the station.
