Königsstuhl (17 May 1976 – 1996) was a German racehorse. In addition to racing success, he was named German horse of 1979 and champion sire in 1988 and 1994.

Background

Königsstuhl was sired by Dschingis Khan, who was the son of Tamerlane.[1] His dam was Kaiserkronung.[2] He was foaled on 17 May 1976 in Zoppenbroich.[3] He was owned and bred by Gestüt Zoppenbroich.[4]

Königsstuhl died in 1996.[4]

Racing career

Königsstuhl won eleven races in Germany and Italy, including the German Triple Crown and the Gran Premio del Jockey Club.[2] He also won another G1 German race, Aral-Pokal.[4] He was mostly ridden by Peter Alafi.[5]

Awards

Königsstuhl was the German Horse of the Year in 1979.[4]

Stud record

Königsstuhl was one of the Germany's most successful sires.[6] He was named as Champion sire in 1988 and in 1994.[4]

One of his notable offspring is Monsun, a leading racehorse and sire.[7] Another son, Lavirco, was the 1996 Deutsches Derby winner.[8]
