Justin Ingram
Justin Durel Ingram (born January 21, 1985) is an American professional basketball player. As an amateur, he was Player of the Year in the city of Lansing as a high school senior and went on to star at the University of Toledo. Ingram accomplished many accolades in college including Mid American Conference Freshman of the Year, the All Freshman team and All Conference First and Second Team. After graduating from the University of Toledo in 2007, Ingram began his professional career in France. In his first two seasons, Ingram led his teams to the semi finals of the playoffs. Currently playing in Estonia, University of Tartu Basketball Club.
Biography
Ingram was born on January 21, 1985 in Lansing, MI,[1] to Michael and Phebeit Ingram. His father is an accomplished basketball coach at Lansing Community College[2] in Lansing, MI. Ingram has three siblings, all of who played college basketball. Older brother Mike Smith played at Lansing Community College, older sister Alayne starred at the University of Michigan[3] and was drafted in the WNBA[4] by the Sacramento Monarchs.[5] Younger sister Jocelyn played at Grand Valley State University,.[6]
High School Basketball (1999-2003)
Ingram attended Waverly Senior High School,[7] where he was a member of the 2000 Class A State Championship team as a freshman. As a sophomore, Ingram started on the varsity team averaging 9.9 points per game. He was named All Conference Honorable Mention and All Area Special Mention. As a junior, Ingram almost doubled his scoring average averaging 18.6 points per game, 8.6 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game. He was a unanimous selection to the First Team All Conference, First Team All Area and All State Honorable Mention. Ingram was selected one out of 200 players to participate in the Adidas ABCD Basketball Camp[8] in Teaneck, New Jersey. As a senior, Ingram's numbers improved again. He averaged 22.6 points per game, 5.2 assists per game and 5.0 rebounds per game. He was named conference Most Valuable Player, unanimous First Team All Conference. Memmber of the Lansing State Journal[9] Dream Team as well as the Player of the Year.[10] Named First Team All State by The Detroit Free Press,[11] The Associated Press[12] and The Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan.[13] Third Team All State by The Detroit News.[14] Ingram accepted a scholarship to play college basketball at the University of Toledo.[15]
College (2003-2007)
Ingram was initially intended to redshirt as a freshman. He won the starting job at point guard and never looked back leading the Toledo Rockets to a 20 win 11 loss season. Ingram earned a spot on the Mid American Conference[16] All Freshman Team as well as being named Freshman of the Year after averaging 10.0 points per game, 3.6 assists and 3.0 rebounds per game. Ingram's Rockets were knocked out of the conference tournament[17] in the semi finals by eventual champion Western Michigan University.[18] Ingram & the Rockets earned a birth in the National Invitational Tournament[19] losing to Marquette University.[20] As a sophomore, Ingram led his team to a 16 win 13 loss season. Earning a share of the Mid American Conference West Division Championship. He averaged 9.3 points per game, 3.2 assists and a team high 4.0 rebounds per game. Ingram's Rockets were knocked out of the conference tournament in the first round by the University at Buffalo.[21] As a junior, Ingram averaged 14.6 points per game, 2.9 assists and 3.2 rebounds per game while leading the conference in free throw percentage at 87.6 percent. Ingram led the Rockets to a 20 win 11 loss season and came five points from reaching the NCAA tournament[22] when they lost in the conference championship game to Kent State University.[23] Ingram was named Second Team All Conference and made the Conference All Tournament team. As a senior, Ingram led his Rockets to their first Mid American Conference championship since 1981. The Rockets were upset in the semi finals of the conference tournament by eventual champion Miami University.[24] Ingram and the Rockets earned another berth in the National Invitational Tournament losing to Florida State University.[25] Ingram averaged 14.5 points per game, 2.8 assists and 4.4 rebounds per game. Ingram ended his career with numerous accolades at the University of Toledo. He was number one in games played[26] (123), consecutive games started (123), number two in steals[27] (217), number three in career free throw percentage[28] (81.6), number four in career three-point field goals[29] (213), number five in minutes played, and number eight in career points[30] (1494). He averaged 12.1 points, 3.7 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game during his tenure at Toledo.
Professional career (2007-present)
Rookie Season
Ingram began his professional career in the country of France in 2007-08 playing for Saint-Étienne Basket.[31] He led the team to the playoffs with a 20 win 14 loss record. The team lost to eventual champions Besançon in three games. Ingram averaged 14.7 points, 3.3 assists and 3.6 rebounds in the regular season. For the playoffs he averaged, 20.8 points, 3.2 assists and 4.0 rebounds per game.
2008-09
In the 2008-09 season, Ingram returned to France. This year playing for JL Bourg-en-Bresse,[32] which he led to a 23 win 11 loss season. Again leading his team to the semi finals of the playoffs only to lose yet again to the eventual champions Poitiers Basket 86.[33] For the season, Ingram led the league in free throw percentage (89.1) while posting averages of 18.2 points, 5.1 assists and 3.4 rebounds per game. For the playoffs he averaged, 14.4 points, 4.0 assists and 2.0 rebounds per game.
2009-10
In the 2009-10 season, Ingram came to Clermont-Ferrand to play for Stade Clermontois BA.[34] Arriving to the team seven games into the season and leading the team to a 5-2 record in his first seven games, including a five game win streak. For the season, Ingram averaged 15.9 points, 4.7 assists and 2.5 rebounds per game. Ingram also shot a career high 45.9 percent from the field and 40.3 percent from the three-point line. This marked the first time in Ingram's professional career that his team did not make the playoffs.
2010-11
In the 2010-11 season, Ingram came to Antibes in the south of France to play for Olympique d'Antibes.[35] For the season, Ingram averaged a career low 13.9 points per game to go along with 4.2 assists and 3.4 rebounds per game. For the second time in Ingram's career his team failed to make the playoffs.
2011-12
Led the Hungarian Basketball National Championship[36] in scoring averaging a career high of 24.6 points per game. Also posting career highs in assists (5.7), rebounds (3.7) and steals (2.4). Played for Factum Sport Debrecen.[37]
2012–present
In August 2012, Ingram signed with University of Tartu Basketball Club.
