Justin Carney is an Australian rugby league player with the Castleford Tigers. He previously played for the Canberra Raiders and Sydney Roosters. He plays in the centres or as a winger and has represented the New South Wales Schoolboys.[1] He has no relation to former Raiders' halfback, Todd Carney.
Career
Carney scored two tries on debut in a 34–16 win over the Brisbane Broncos.[2]
In round 17 of the 2009 NRL season against the Gold Coast Titans he suffered a fracture to both his tibia and fibula during a tackle.[3] He could not play for the rest of the year and missed the entirety of the 2010 season.
Carney was nominated for the 2009 Ken Stephen Medal, acknowledging his strong community work.[4]
He signed a 2-year deal with the Sydney Roosters.[5] His first game for the Roosters was against the Wests Tigers on 3 April. He spent two seasons at the club, but played in just 17 games and failed to score a try in 2012.
Carney joined the Castleford Tigers on a two-year contract from 2013. Coach Ian Millward said, "No one will run the ball harder or faster in Super League in 2013."[6]
