Jurong Road
Jurong Road is a road in Singapore from Bukit Batok Road to Pan Island Expressway. It was the oldest road in Jurong and was constructed in 1852–1853 during the colonial era to link the rural area of Jurong with the rest of Singapore. It was extended in 1929 to Bukit Timah Road. Its original span in the 1960s was from Bukit Timah Road to a dead end in Tuas, at the present-day junction of Tuas Road and Pioneer Road. The road between Upper Bukit Timah Road and Jalan Jurong Kechil is now known as Old Jurong Road. The road after present-day Jurong Road is commonly known as Jurong West Avenue 2 to Jalan Bahar. The Upper Jurong Road starts from Pioneer Road and ends at Pan Island Expressway, after which goes to the SAFTI military training area at Pasir Laba. Currently, only the section between Jurong West Avenue 2 and Bukit Batok Road remains.
The roads in Jurong Road cuts out, as Track 18, Track 20 and Track 22. Track 22 links to Jalan Chichau and Jalan Lam Sam.
A popular myth goes that the areas surrounding Jurong Road are blessed with extremely good feng shui and whoever lives there would enjoy good fortune, peace and abundance. Indeed the now defunct Hong Kah Village, Bulim Village and the Old Jurong 10-mile market used to enjoy a thriving population and trade.
