Kim Minjun (Hangul: 김민준; Hanja: 金閔俊), formerly known as Junsu generally known by his stage name Jun. K, was born on January 15, 1988. He is the main vocalist of Korean boy group 2PM managed by JYP Entertainment.[1] On October 17, 2012, Junsu revealed through his personal Twitter that, due to family matters, he would be changing his name to Minjun (민준), and that his stage name Jun K. would remain the same.[2]
History
Early life
Minjun was born in Daegu, South Korea and attended DongA School For The Arts with a major in the broadcasting/entertainment department.[3]
Pre-Debut
Prior to singing, Minjun had entered and won various poem and songwriting contests.[4] He originally auditioned for YG Entertainment, where he befriended G-Dragon and Tae Yang of Big Bang. He was accepted into both YG Entertainment & JYP Entertainment, but ended up in JYP Entertainment. Up till now, he is still close friends with both members of Big Bang.[5]
Music career
Group
On September 4, 2008, Minjun (then known as Junsu), along with 6 other members, debuted as 2PM with their first single "10점 만점에 10점" ("10 Points out of 10 Points") from their single album "Hottest Time of the Day."
Solo
On October 7, 2011, Minjun released his debut solo single Alive on various digital music sites by his stage name Jun. K. The official MV of Alive has been uploaded to 2PM's official YouTube account on October 10, 2011. His solo single quickly rose up the charts to be no. 1 of Cyworld.[6]
Other works of his include “HOT“, “Sunshine” and “Don’t Go”. He was featured in San e's song "B.U.B.U" and also he sang the song "Tok Tok Tok" with Jung Woo. In 2011, he was part the group that sang "Let's Go" which was G20 Seoul summit campaign song.
The song is included in 2PM’s upcoming album containing their best Korean hits, and it was released as a ringtone on ‘Recochoku’ ahead of the album’s official release on March 14. Moments into its upload into the site’s ringtone download service, “Alive” managed to rank in at #1 on its daily chart.
JYP Entertainment stated, “Jun. K’s fourth song ‘Alive’ shows a deeper look into Jun. K’s unique musical world. It has a smooth beat that shows a new charm to the singer. Please continue to give your support to Asia’s best performance boy band, 2PM.”[7]
Minjun recorded a track for Korean drama, "I Love Lee Tae Ri"'s OST. The song, titled "Love...Goodbye," is the theme song for the main male character. It is an emotional ballad with orchestral and classical guitar accompaniments, and Minjun is able to show off his explosive singing skills in the song.[8]
Acting
It has been reported that Minjun, along with fellow labelmates 2AM's Changmin and Wonder Girls' Yenny, will star in an upcoming musical, The Three Musketeers.[9]
Personal life
Minjun stands 5 ft 11 in (1.80 m) and weighs 68 kg (150 lb; 10.7 st).[1] He speaks Korean, basic English, and minimal Japanese. His hobbies include composing, fashion, collecting accessories and shoes.[1] His specialties are singing and writing themes.[1] On February 24, 2011, he was admitted into the bachelor program for Performing Arts at the Dong-Ah Institute of Media and Arts, starting his new semester as a fourth year student.[3] Minjun is a Buddhist.
