Julie "Finn" Finlay is a fictional character on the CBS crime drama CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, portrayed by Elisabeth Shue. She made her first screen appearance in the season twelve episode "Seeing Red", which was broadcast on February 15, 2012.

Casting

In August 2011 it was announced that Marg Helgenberger would depart during the January run of the show's twelfth season and that producers had began searching for her replacement.[1]

In November 2011 after months of rumors it was announced that Back to the Future star Elisabeth Shue was joining CSI, as character who was fresh off her anger management course, and had worked for current Supervisor D.B. Russell before in Seattle, On Shue's casting, Carol Mendelsohn the shows executive producer stated "While it’s difficult to say goodbye to a beloved character like Catherine Willows, it’s exciting to start a journey with a new CSI, especially when that character is played by Elisabeth Shue”.[2]

In January 2012 it was announced on the official CSI website that the character would be called Julie Finaly[3] Shue made her first appearance as Julie Finlay on February 15, 2012. On March 20, 2013, Shue was confirmed to appear in Season 14.[4]

Personal background

Finlay is the newest Crime Scene Investigator. She comes to Las Vegas, replacing Catherine Willows as the new Assistant Night Shift Supervisor. "Finn", as she is known, is followed by rumors that D.B. Russell fired her when she worked for him in Seattle. Russell confirms it to Greg in "Stealing Home". In the season 12 finale, the audience is informed that the reason Finlay was fired was because she had illegally obtained a DNA sample from a suspect in an investigation by sneaking into a party and exiting with the suspect's champagne glass in her purse.

In "Stealing Home", as Finlay was taking a polygraph examination, she reveals that she was married twice, divorcing both husbands. In "Seeing Red," it is revealed that D.B Russell calls her "Jules," but she prefers to be called "Finn."

On the team

Russell tends to call Finn the "Blood Queen" because she is the lab's blood spatter specialist.
