Endemic to the New World, Jouvea is a genus of grass in the Poaceae family. Its two species are distributed from Mexico's Pacific coast to Central America. It grows on mud flats and coastal sand dunes.[2]

Jouvea's closest relative in the Chloridoideae subfamily is likely Monanthochloe; both share the characteristic of distichously arranged leaves, and within species both have their staminate and pistillate flowers on separate plants.[2]

Jouvea was named for the French botanist Joseph Duval-Jouve (1810–1883)[4]
