Jotham Post, Jr.

Jotham Post, Jr. (April 4, 1771 – May 15, 1817) was a U.S. Representative from the state of New York, USA.

Born near Westbury, New York, Post was graduated from Columbia College, New York City, in 1792. He studied medicine but did not practice. He engaged in the drug-importing business in New York City. He served as member of the board of aldermen. He served in the State assembly 1795 and 1805–1808. He served as director of the New York Hospital 1798–1802.

Post was elected as a Federalist to the Thirteenth Congress (March 4, 1813 – March 3, 1815). He died in New York City, May 15, 1817.

Personal Life

Jotham was the son of Jotham Post, Sr.(1740-1817), whom he was very close to, and his wife, Winifred Wright(1745-1811). He married Magdalen Blaau(1771-1811) on August 10, 1792. Their daughters, Julia and Eleanor, married James and Francis DeWolf, the sons of Senator James DeWolf. His granddaughter Angelina married Caspar Hodge and great-granddaughter Mary Hodge married William Francis Magie. A grandson was Henry A V Post and great-grandsons were Albertson Van Zo Post and Henry Post. His granddaughter Carolyn married another one of Jotham's great-grandsons, Regis Post, a Puerto Rico governor. His great-grandson was Rhinelander Waldo.
