Joshua Benjamin "Josh" Trank (born February 19, 1984)[1][2] is an American film writer and director. He is known for directing his first feature film, the 2012 Twentieth Century Fox film, Chronicle[3] and will direct the 2015 superhero film Fantastic Four.[4]
Career
The Kill Point and Big Fan
Trank worked on the 2007 Spike TV drama The Kill Point, as an editor, director and writer.
In 2009, Trank edited the independent film Big Fan, starring Patton Oswalt. He also had a small acting role in the film.
Chronicle
In 2011, Trank directed his first feature film, Chronicle. It was released on February 3, 2012 by Fox and has grossed over $125 million worldwide.[5] Chronicle, made for a budget of $12 million, was received positively by critics, earning an 85% score on Rotten Tomatoes.[6]
With Chronicle released at the age of 27, Trank became one of the youngest directors to open a movie at number one at the US box office. He is followed by Steven Spielberg (28, with Jaws) and James Cameron (30, with The Terminator).[7]
In development
Since the release of Chronicle, Trank has been linked to Sony's Spider-Man spinoff, Venom,[8] WB's The Red Star,[9] and Sony's film adaptation of the video game Shadow of the Colossus.[10]
On July 11, 2012, Fox confirmed Trank to direct The Fantastic Four.[11] It is scheduled for a June 19, 2015 release.[12]
