Josh Rand (born August 19, 1974) is a American musician best known as one of two guitarists from the band Stone Sour.
Background
Josh rand started first playing guitar, when he was 9 years old. He said in an interview that he gave that guitar away. He also played bass. He has known Corey Taylor since he was 14. Although he took lessons throughout his life, he started playing guitar seriously at age 17. Rand has mentioned that he is influenced by Billy Sheehan, David Lee Roth and thrash metal. [1]
Josh has two children. He is a fan of the Atlanta Falcons. He earned a certificate in guitar from Berklee College of Music and is currently pursuing a Master's degree in guitar from there as well.
Stone Sour
Josh Rand joined the Stone Sour in 2001. Reason why Josh Rand wasn't in the band in 90's, because he wanted to play metal and heavy metal was disappearing back then. Josh and Corey Taylor got together in 2000 and started recording stuff, what later started the Stone Sour.[2]
Josh Rand has stated that he adds elements of thrash metal in Stone Sour's music.[3]
Roadrunner United
In 2005, Roadrunner Records released Roadrunner United: The All-Star Sessions to celebrate the label's 25th birthday. Josh Rand, along with Jesse Leach (Killswitch Engage, Seemless, The Empire Shall Fall), Matt Heafy (Trivium), Mike D'Antonio (Killswitch Engage, ex-Overcast, Death Ray Vision) and Johnny Kelly (Type O Negative) contributed a track "Blood & Flames".
Other projects
It was reported in 2013, that Josh Rand is going to release a instructional DVD called 'The Sound And The Story'. The DVD series takes you behind the scenes with Stone Sour guitarist Josh Rand, it features guitar contents, lessons, exercises, interviews, gear tours, and more.[4]
