Josh Clarke (born 7 July 1995) is an English footballer who plays as a midfielder for Brentford in League One. He came through the club's youth system.

Career

Brentford

Clarke signed a two-year scholarship at Brentford in the summer of 2011, after being spotted while on a course at Southgate College.[2] In his first season with the club, he played in the youth team and also made an appearance for the Development Squad.[3] During the 2012/13 season, despite being a scholar, Clarke was too old for the Brentford youth team and played in the Development Squad instead, making 17 appearances and scoring 1 goal.[4] In the summer of 2013, Clarke signed a one year professional contract with Brentford for the 2013/14 season and made his first team debut in a 5-0 League Cup defeat at Derby County in August 2013, playing the full 90 minutes.[5] His second appearance came in a 2-1 Johnstone's Paint Trophy defeat to Peterborough United on 8 October, when he replaced Martin Fillo after 47 minutes.[6]

Carshalton Athletic (loans)

In December 2012, Clarke moved to Isthmian Premier side Carshalton Athletic on a work experience deal and scored on his debut.[7] The deal allowed him to continue to make appearances for the Brentford Development Squad. He resigned for Carshalton Athletic in February 2013[7] and remained there for the rest of the season.[8] At different times throughout the season he was joined by fellow Brentford scholars Sam Griffths[9] and Tyrell Miller-Rodney.[8]

Maidenhead United (loan)

Clarke moved to Conference South side Maidenhead United on a month's loan on 4 December 2013.[10] He made his debut in a 3-2 defeat to Sutton United on 7 December, replacing Michael Malcolm after an hour.[11] His second appearance came three days later, coming on for Harry Grant after 74 minutes of a 1-1 draw at Chelmsford City. Clarke's spell at Maidenhead was hit by postponements due to the weather and he returned to Brentford on January 6 2014, after making just two appearances.[12]
