Joseph F. Periconi
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Joseph F. Periconi (July 14, 1910 – February 16, 1994) was a former New York State Senator from the Bronx and Bronx Borough President. Periconi was the last Republican elected Bronx Borough President.[1]
Periconi, who was also endorsed by the New York State Liberal Party, was elected Bronx Borough President in 1961. During his time in office, he fought countlessly for the preservation of Bronx Borough Hall as a landmark. In 1965, he was narrowly defeated by Herman Badillo, who was then a Democrat. Under Badillo's tenure, the landmark building was demolished.
In 1970, Periconi was an unsuccessful candidate for Congress.
Periconi died on February 16, 1994 in the Bronx.
