Joseph Chappell Hutcheson

Joseph Chappell Hutcheson, Sr. (May 18, 1842 – May 25, 1924), was a Texas politician and a Democratic member of the Texas House of Representatives and from 1893 to 1897 the United States House of Representatives from Texas' 1st congressional district. He practiced law in Houston. He was a native of Mecklenburg County, Virginia.
His son, Joseph Chappell Hutcheson, Jr., was a mayor of Houston and a federal judge. A grandson, Thad Hutcheson, also a Houston lawyer, was a Republican candidate in the 1957 special election to the United States Senate from Texas; he was defeated by Democrat Ralph Yarborough. Thad Hutcheson served in 1958 as the chairman of the Texas GOP.[1]
