Jonathan Shier

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jonathan Shier is an Australian-born media executive. He was educated at Geelong Grammar School and lived in the United Kingdom from 1978 until 1999. During that period he was a Director of Scottish Television based in Glasgow and Thames Television based in London. However, he is best known in Australia for his controversial tenure as managing director of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation from March 2000 to 31 December 2001.

Since 2002 Shier has been the Chairman of Continental Ventures (Australia) and, from 2011, chairman of Pellevital International Pty Ltd.

From 2008 until 2011, Shier was also the Executive Chairman of Fox Legal, a company that intended to acquire some eighteen specialist law firms and float them on the Australian Securities Exchange. The other directors of the company were Mark Avery, Jeffrey Goss and Miles Hedge. The timing of the Global Financial Crisis required the float to be aborted and the company was subsequently put into voluntary administration. The creditors accepted a Deed of Arrangement and were paid a dividend in 2010.
