Jonathan H. Pettibone (born July 19, 1990) is an American professional baseball player. He is a starting pitcher for the Philadelphia Phillies of Major League Baseball.

Professional career

Minor League

After attending Esperanza High School in Anaheim, California, Pettibone was selected by the Philadelphia Phillies in the third round of the 2008 MLB Draft.[1] He started (and lost) one game for the Gulf Coast League Phillies that year.[2] Next season, Pettibone was assigned to the Williamsport Crosscutters of the New York-Penn League (Single-A short season). He went 24 in nine games (eight starts) with a 5.35 ERA and thirty-six strikeouts in 35.1 innings.[2] In 2010, he pitched with the Lakewood BlueClaws of the South Atlantic League (Single-A). He went 86 with a 3.49 ERA in twenty-four games (twenty-three starts).[2] In 2011 he was assigned to the Clearwater Threshers of the Florida State League (Single-A advanced).[2]

Philadelphia Phillies

Pettibone made his major league debut on April 22, 2013, starting for the Phillies at Citizens Bank Park against the Pittsburgh Pirates. He pitched 5 1/3 innings, striking out six, while reaching base on a walk and scoring a run for Philadelphia; he earned a no decision in the Phillies' 3–2 defeat of the Pittsburgh Pirates.[3] After discomfort which turned out to be inflammation in his right rotator cuff, the Phillies shut Pettibone down for the season on August 23.[4] In 18 starts for the Phillies, he went 5-4 with a 4.04 ERA, striking out 66 in 100.1 innings.

Pettibone throws 3 pitches: a fastball, a changeup and an occasional curveball.[5]
