Jonathan Andrew Henly (born 15 March 1994 in Woking, England) is a Scottish professional footballer who plays as a Goalkeeper for Oxford United on loan from Reading.

Club career

Youth career

Henly was born in Woking, and began his youth career when he joined Reading at the age of 10. He progressed through the ranks before graduating professionally in 2012 when he signed a one-year contract and on 25 June 2013 he signed a two-year contract^[1] extension to take him up until the end of the 2014-15 season.

Hungerford Town and Bromley

On 14 February 2011, Henly joined then Southern League Division One South & West side Hungerford Town.^[2] He then returned to the club on 14 December 2012 on a one month loan helping them gain promotion although he was not at the club for the latter stages of the season. He received praise for his performances during this period, a Reading fansite^[3] summed up his appearances by saying 'Goalkeeper Henly put in a string of fine performances for Hungerford over the Christmas period, earning praise throughout the match reports for some fine saves and confident handling.' On 23 August 2011 he joined Bromley and played just the 1 match in a heavy defeat and returned to Reading on the 1st of September of the same year.

Return To Reading

In 2012 he signed a one-year contract. Henly played many games in the Under 21s Premier League in the 2012-2013 season and after injuries to both Alex McCarthy and Adam Federici was named on the bench for the away Premier League match at Everton on the 2nd of March 2013 and then for the home meeting against Aston Villa a week later. At the end of the season on 25 June 2013 he signed a new two-year contract to take him to the end of the 2014-15 season.

Loan To Aldershot Town

On 31st October 2013, Henly joined Conference side Aldershot Town on a two-month loan deal.^[4] He made his debut against Chester on 2nd November in a 1-1 draw. He then proceeded to play in two consecutive 4-0 losses, against Cambridge United and Chester respectively. After two wins in a row, he went on to play 3 FA Trophy matches on the bounce, helping Aldershot progress into the third round. On 21 December in his 9th match in all competitions, he recorded his first clean sheet in a 6-0 victory over Tamworth. Henly played his final match for the club on Boxing Day against Forest Green in a 3-1 defeat. He was due to play 2 more matches before his loan spell ended, but was ill on the day of the defeat to Welling United, and the home match against Forest Green on 1st Jan 2014 which would have been his final game, was called off due to a waterlogged pitch. He returned to Reading on the 2nd Jan 2014, having made 10 appearances for Aldershot, 7 of which in the league.

Loan To Oxford United

On 10 January 2014, Henly joined Oxford United on an initial one-month youth loan.^[5]

International Career

Henly qualified to play for Scotland through his mother. Henly made his first appearance for Scotland U19s on 29 May 2013 against England U19s in a 3-0 loss. He received a call-up to the Scotland U21s for the match against Georgia U21s on 14 November 2013 but did not make it into the 18.
