Jonathan Drouin (born March 28, 1995)[2] is a Canadian ice hockey forward who currently plays for the Halifax Mooseheads. After a stellar season with the Halifax Moosehead's in which he was named CHL MVP and captured the Memorial Cup, Drouin was selected by the Tampa Bay Lightning in the 1st round (3rd overall) of the 2013 NHL Entry Draft.[3] Drouin was cut from the Lightning at the beginning of the 2013-14 NHL season, returning to the Halifax Mooseheads of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.[4]

Playing career

Drouin was selected second overall by the Mooseheads in the 2011 QMJHL entry draft.[5] After starting the 2011–12 season at the Midget AAA level with the Lac St. Louis Lions, it was announced on December 9, 2011 that Drouin would join the Mooseheads.[6] In his first QMJHL game, against the Acadie-Bathurst Titan, Drouin recorded two assists including setting up the game-winning goal.[7] Drouin was also a key member of Halifax's 2012 playoff success, most notably scoring the overtime winning goal in game 7 against the Quebec Remparts.[8]

On November 7, 2012, Drouin represented Team QMJHL in game 2 of the Subway Super Series against Russia. He scored a goal and added three assists.[9] He missed the first game of the series due to a foot injury.[10] Drouin was named the CHL's Player of the Year at the conclusion of the 2012–2013 season.[11] Drouin would be an integral player for the Moosehead's during the 2013 playoffs. The team would go on to win the President's Cup and the Memorial Cup.
