Jonas Myrin is a Swedish singer, musician and songwriter based in Berlin. Having started his musical career in the early 2000s as a worship leader at Hillsong Church London and songwriter for various international acts, he went on as a solo artist in 2012.
Early life
Myrin was born in Örebro, Sweden. His parents were missionaries, which resulted in him travelling at a young age throughout Russia, South Africa, Iceland, and across Scandinavia. At a young age his voice was used in Swedish cartoons.[citation needed] He attended Risbergska Skolan High School where he graduated a year early. He then moved to London at the age of 17 to study Drama and Music at College in London.[citation needed]
Musical career
At an early age Myrin was the lead vocalist in a band that performed around Sweden. He started playing piano at the age of 11 and very soon thereafter began writing his first songs. At the age of 17 he moved to London to study music and drama. He was active in Hillsong London where he soon began leading the music team.[1][2] He wrote and co-wrote songs featured on the various albums by Hillsong Music including Look to You, Shout God's Fame, God He Reigns, Hope and The I Heart Revolution: With Hearts as One. He toured with the Hillsong worship team around Rwanda, Cambodia and the US. He often sang in duet and has done a lot of songwriting with another Hillsong London worship leader Natasha Bedingfield who has achieved worldwide success as a pop singer since then. Since then Myrin has written songs with members of Supergrass, Snow Patrol, The Roots, Athlete, Peter Bjorn and John.[3]
In 2002, Myrin appeared in the music video to the song "Get Over You" by Sophie Ellis-Bextor playing a groom mannequin in a bridal shop.
In 2007, he played keyboards and Wurlitzer electric piano on the album N.B. by Natasha Bedingfield. In the same year, he co-wrote a song "Christmas Angels" with Michael W. Smith featured on the album It's a Wonderful Christmas.[4]
He also co-wrote the airplay hit song "Yours" on Steven Curtis Chapman's album This Moment released in 2007.[5]
For Matt Redman's 2009 album We Shall Not Be Shaken, Myrin co-wrote songs with Redman.[6]
He recently wrote the theme song for the hit Japanese TV series, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. The song was performed by duo Chemistry. [7]
In 2011, he co-wrote the song "Our God", performed by Chris Tomlin which has been nominated for an American Grammy Award.[8]
Myrin co-wrote three songs on Natasha Bedingfield's album Strip Me. "Break Thru" which was co-written with the Swedish electronic artist and producer Andreas Kleerup, "Run Run Run" and "A Little Too Much" co-written with John Hill. The latest was also the theme song for the movie Something Borrowed.
His first solo album Dreams Plans Everything will be released in 2013. The first single, "The Day of the Battle" was released in Germany, Austria and Switzerland on 18 June 2012 and became an airplay hit on German Radio.[9] The single has sold over 100.000 units which is certified gold in Germany.[10] A video for "The Day of the Battle" was recorded in Stockholm on 27 June. Myrin is one of the first artist in history to be put on real fire in a music video. [11]
In February 2013, Jonas Myrin was awarded two Grammy Awards for Best Contemporary Christian Music Song of the year and best Gospel Performance for his and Matt Redman's song "10,000 Reasons (Bless The Lord)".[12] The song remained at No. 1 for 16 weeks on Christian Radio and remained at No. 1 on the Billboard Christian Songs Chart for four months. It was recently certified Digital Gold by the RIAA. [13] The song has also received an American Billboard Nomination for Top Christian Song 2013 [14]
Myrin also penned Lucia Piñera's entry for the Swedish qualifying competition for the 2013 Eurovision Song Contest together with Peter Kvint. [15]
On 18 March 2013 it was announced that Myrin had written a song for the Tohoshinki's new album TIME that debuted at No 1 on the World Charts - the best selling album in the world of that week. [16][17]
