JonTron & NormalBoots

Jafari first joined YouTube on August 31, 2010, creating a channel under the name of "JonTronShow". As a pilot episode for his newly created show, JonTron, he immediately uploaded a two parter review of Daikatana, a first-person shooter video game. Soon after, he rose to internet stardom after a fan posted his Dino City review[4] on Reddit, with the description "After watching this, video game reviews aren't really the same anymore."[5] Since then, he has refined his videos, as well as upgraded production value.

Jafari is also the co-creator of the NormalBoots.com website. NormalBoots hosts the content of several closely related YouTube channels, including JonTronShow, PeanutButterGamer,[6] Continue?,[7] The Completionist,[8] Indie Games Searchlight,[9] and DYKGaming.[10] It was eventually closed down in early 2013, and was brought back January 2014, adding several new YouTube channels, including Satchbag[11] and ProJared.[12][13]

In 2011, he briefly contributed to Channel Awesome, working on subdivisions That Guy with the Glasses[14] and Blistered Thumbs.[15]

He is also a member of The Game Station,[16] now re-branded as Polaris, a vertical company run by multi-channel network Maker Studios.[17]

As of January 13, 2014, JonTronShow has over 800,000 subscribers, and more than 70,000,000 total views.[1]

Game Grumps

In late July 2012[18] Jafari and his colleague Arin "Egoraptor" Hanson,[19] known for creating the Awesome Series[20] and co-creating the musical comedy group Starbomb,[21] started a joint YouTube channel called "GameGrumps", hosting a show of the same name, Game Grumps. On this show, both Jafari and Hanson played video games that were typically retro or nostalgic in style.[22] This new channel was instantly widely acclaimed by fans of both Jafari's original channel, and Hanson's animation channel, garnering over 100,000 subscribers in the first 48 hours.[citation needed] However, in late June 2013, just under a year after the show's inception, Jafari left Game Grumps under ambiguous circumstances.[23] In response to his departure, a tribute video was posted on the Game Grumps YouTube channel.[24] Soon after Jafari left, he was replaced by Leigh "Danny" Avidan, also known as "Danny Sexbang" of the musical comedy duo Ninja Sex Party.[25]

Jafari has stated he does not plan to return to the show.[26]

Other work

Jafari has appeared many times as a narrator on the popular internet show Did You Know Gaming?.[27] He also provides the voice of the character Sniperwheel from TOME: Terrain of Magical Expertise,[28] a Flash-animated webseries about a futuristic virtual reality game.

Popularity

In the video game DLC Quest, in the episode "Live Freemium or Die", a reference to one of Jafari's quotes can be found on a gravestone, reading "Here Lies: Villager Jon (???-2013) Killed by the Creatures. Real Talk? He Wasn't Paying Attention."[29]
