John William Byrnes (June 12, 1913 in Green Bay, Wisconsin – January 12, 1985 in Marshfield, Wisconsin) was a U.S. Representative from Wisconsin.
Born in Green Bay, Wisconsin, he received his bachelors and law degrees from the University of Wisconsin–Madison. He then practiced law in Green Bay. From 1938-1941 he served as deputy commissioner of the Wisconsin Department of Banking. Before being elected to the United House of Representatives in 1944, he served in the Wisconsin State Senate from 1941-1945, serving the 2nd District.[1] He was elected in 1944 as a Republican to the 79th United States Congress. He was elected as the representative of Wisconsin's 8th congressional district. He was reelected to the thirteen succeeding Congresses serving from January 3, 1945 to January 3, 1973. He chose not to run for reelection in 1972 to the 93rd Congress. John Byrnes held his seat in the 8th district for 28 years making him the longest serving representative in that seat.
