John Herman Stephenson (born April 13, 1941 in
South Portsmouth, Greenup County, Kentucky) is a retired
American professional
baseball player who was a
catcher in the Major Leagues from 1964-1973. He played for the
San Francisco Giants,
Chicago Cubs,
New York Mets, and California Angels. In 1964, he was the last out of
Jim Bunning's perfect game. John holds a degree from William Carey College in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. He has gone on to coach extensively in the major and minor leagues as well as college.
