John Riddell (news)
John Riddell (born 1956) is the presenter of Seven News in Adelaide. He has been weekday presenter with Jane Doyle[1] since 2004, and previously presented the weekend news.
Career
Riddell began as a journalist with The Messenger newspaper in Adelaide while studying at the University of South Australia. He later joined radio 5DN and became a foreign correspondent for the MacQuarie radio network.
Riddell entered television with TVW-7 in Perth before returning to Adelaide to work at NWS-9 News. There he spent nine years working as a senior journalist, chief of staff, producer, and weekend news presenter. He also worked on several sports specials.
In 1990 he joined SAS-7 to work with Seven News. He initially worked as weekend news presenter alongside Narelle Hill until she left in 1999. He was also a senior reporter, reporting for the Seven Network from places such as Singapore, Thailand and London. In the late 1990s, Riddell was the main substitute presenter for the local current affairs program Today Tonight, which he presented when Leigh McClusky was absent or on vacation.
In 2004, Riddell became presenter of the weekday news, after Graeme Goodings moved to weekend to help his recovery from cancer.
He has also been host of local travel show, Discover, however after moving to presenting the weekday news, he became a reporter for the program. He has also hosted The World Around Us.
