John G. Nix (born November 24, 1976) is a former American football defensive lineman. He played for the New York Dragons of the Arena Football League (AFL) in 2007 and 2008. He played college football at Southern Mississippi.
In his career he has played for the Dallas Cowboys, San Francisco 49ers, Cleveland Browns, and Arizona Cardinals of the National Football League (NFL). The Amsterdam Admirals of NFL Europe, the Montreal Alouettes of the Canadian Football League (CFL), and the Las Vegas Gladiators.
College
Nix attended Southern Mississippi from 1996–2000. He redshirt his freshman season (1996). He was named a C-USA All-Freshmen selection in 1997. He played in the 1999 Liberty Bowl. He was named to the All-C-USA team in his senior season.
Professional career
National Football League (2001–2004)
Nix was selected by the Dallas Cowboys in the seventh round (240th overall) of the 2001 NFL Draft.
His National Football League career lasted just four seasons. In those four seasons, Nix played for four teams. In 2001, he recorded 22 tackles and two forced fumbles as a rookie. In 2002, he played 14 games, recording 21 tackles and one forced fumble. In 2003, he played for the Dallas Cowboys, San Francisco 49ers and Cleveland Browns. In 2004, he played in one game with the Arizona Cardinals.
Nix also spent 2004 in NFL Europe and started 10 games with the Amsterdam Admirals where he recorded 21 tackles and two sacks.
Canadian Football League (2005–2006)
Nix joined the Canadian Football League (CFL), playing for the Montreal Alouettes. In 2005, as a rookie, he began the season as a starter on defense until he injured his shoulder during game eight of the season. He then played one more season for Montreal before leaving the CFL to join the Arena Football League back in the United States.
Arena Football League (2007–2010)
Nix joined the Arena Football League in 2007 playing for the Las Vegas Gladiators. He played in two games with the Gladiators, recording two tackles and one sack. He then joined the New York Dragons and played in 15 games, recording 10.5 total tackles and two sacks. In eight games in 2008, he recorded eight tackles and one fumble recovery.
Outside of football
Nix participated in several community programs while playing for the Cowboys. His favorite place to go while on vacation is Amsterdam, and his favorite restaurant is the Waffle House.
