John Leamy (musician)

John Leamy (born 1967 in Ames, Iowa) was a member of New York noise band Surgery^[1] from 1987–1995 and is the drummer for Masters of Reality since 1999. Leamy is a member, as a multi-instrumentalist, of the New York collective Brand New Skin as well as Dr. Mars, a partnership with longtime collaborator Liam O'Malley.

He is a designer, digital media and visual artist working in New York City as the Creative Director and Head of Design for Spontaneous. He was nominated for an MTV Video Music Award for Best Special Effects in 2006 for his animation in U2's video "Original of the Species." Following the video, Leamy designed and edited the title sequence for the 3D concert film "U23D" as well as designing the film's logo mark, posters and branding, the poster winning the award for best poster art at the Giant Screen Cinema Association's annual international conference in 2008.

Leamy has been a member of Masters of Reality since 1999, contributing performances and composition to the albums "Welcome to the Western Lodge", "Deep In the Hole", "FLak 'N' Flight", and "Pine/Cross Dover", also designing the covers and packaging for all with the exception of "Flak'N' Flight", and touring in support of each release. Leamy's artwork is used on the cover of the band's first album The Blue Garden.
