John Fogelman

John Michael Fogelman (born c. 1965) is the CEO and founder of FactoryMade Ventures. FactoryMade is an entertainment and media incubator.[1]

Prior to FactoryMade, he was an agent at William Morris Endeavor Entertainment.[2] Before the merger of William Morris Agency and Endeavor, he was the Head of the Motion Picture Department at William Morris Agency.[3][4]

Career

In high school, Fogelman worked in retail for his uncle Louis Fogelman.[5] Lou helped found the 200-outlet music retail chain Wherehouse Entertainment and founded the 100+ chain Music Plus.[6] John also created a local delivery service called F&F Delivery.

John atteneded Tulane University and the University of Southern California.[7] In college, he and two friends started a small take-out restaurant VFC.[8]

In 1987, he joined KPMG Peat Marwick as an Auditor. In 1990, he left accounting and enrolled at the Anderson School of Business at UCLA where he earned his MBA.[7] While at business school, Fogelman and his colleagues created a CD-Rom device called the disc lift.[9]

Fogelman sworked as an agent in the mailroom for the Triad Agency and joined the William Morris Agency in 1992.[3] In 1994, he was promoted to talent agent at WMA, and in April 2000, he was named Head of the Motion Picture Talent Department.[10] In 2002, he became the Co-Head of Motion Pictures Department and in 2003, Fogelman joined the board.[7][11] He became the Head and EVP of the Motion Picture Department in July 2004.[3][4]

Talent

Fogelman helped design the business operations for Bad Robot, Bay Films and Platinum Dunes.[5][12][13] His team helped creat a five-year film deal for JJ Abrams’ Bad Robot and Paramount and a six-year TV production pact with Warner Bros. Television.[5][14][15] He was also thanked for his contributions on films such as “American Beauty” and “Monster’s Ball”.[16][17]

Corporate

Fogelman was part of a team who signed Hasbro with William Morris.[18] The group brokered a six-year deal for Hasbro with Universal Pictures.[18] and a joint venture between Hasbro and Discovery Communications. As a result of the deal, Hasbro gained a 50% stake in the Hub (formerly Discovery Kids Network) in the US.[19]

In early 2010, the team signed HSN to create multi-media expansion opportunities for the company.[20]

Background

John is married to Sherri Fogelman and has three children.[21] He is a contributor at the UCLA Children’s Hospital, where he serves on the board of directors,[22] and is an active member of the Wilshire Boulevard Temple.[23]
