John Atherton (pioneer)

John Atherton (9 August 1837 – 16 May 1913) was an explorer of the Far North Queensland area of Queensland, Australia.
Childhood and early life
John Atherton was born in Lancashire, England and was the second son of nine children. Prior to heading north, John gained experience in farming sheep, wheat and other mixed crops on the family property at Armidale, New South Wales.
