John Arcilla

Romeo John Arcilla is a multi-awarded Filipino movie actor[1][2] and environmentalist.[3]

Education

Arcilla finished high school at Mount Carmel College of Baler (MCC Baler). He was an avid participant in and member of the Philippine Educational Theater Association-Metropolitan Teen Theater League (PETA-MTTL) during his high school days. He graduated as a scholar of mass communication from Saint Joseph's College of Quezon City (SJCQC). He was an acting scholar of the Actors' Workshop Foundation under Laurice Guillen and Leo Martinez from 1987 to 1990. He became a senior company actor from 1990 to 1997, equally adept from straight plays and musicals to Tanghalang Pilipino, the in-house Theater Company of the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP).

Awards

Arcilla gained recognition for his performance in Mulanay (Best Actor, 1996 Manila Film Festival), Ligaya ang Itawag Mo sa Akin (Best Actor in a Supporting Role, 1998 Manunuri ng Pelikulang Pilipino/Urian) and Halaw (Best Actor, 2010 Cinemalaya).

He had (12) twelve nominations from different award-giving bodies like the Star Awards, the Golden Screen Awards, the Film Academy of the Philippines, the MTRCB Film Awards; the Asian Awards for Television and from the most recent 16th British Independent Film Awards, BIFA 2013 for Best Supporting Actor.

He was conferred the Dangal ng Aurora in 2005 for his exceptional talent as one of the country's acclaimed actors in theater, film, and television industries. He was also awarded as one of the Outstanding Citizens of San Luis, Aurora in 2009 for his exemplary achievements in the field of performing arts.

When he was cast in the action thriller The Bourne Legacy (2012), playing the role of the head security guard in a laboratory, he won praises and positive feedback from Hollywood director Tony Gilroy.[4] He was flattered by one of the movie's lead stars, Rachel Weisz, who called him "wonderful".[5]

He received commendation for his performance in the independent film Metro Manila which won in the 2013 Audience Award for Best World Dramatic Film at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah, USA.[6][7]
