John A. Boockvar is an American neurosurgeon. He is an associate professor of neurosurgery, co-director of Surgical Neuro-Oncology, and director of the Brain Tumor and Stem Cell Research Laboratory at Weill Cornell Medical College (New York City). He is also a board-certified adult neurosurgeon at New York Presbyterian Hospital.[1]
Career
Boockvar received a B.A. degree from the University of Pennsylvania and earned his M.D. degree from SUNY Downstate Medical Center in 1997.[2] He did a surgical internship and a neurosurgical residency at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. He joined the staff at Weill Cornell Medical College in 2004. In 2005 he was named the first recipient of the Alvina and Willis Murphy Assistant Professorship of Neurological Surgery, an endowed position for a junior faculty member who has "shown exceptional promise in the field of neurological surgery."[3]
Practice
In 2009 he led a trial using microcatheters to deliver the chemotherapeutic agent bevacizumab directly to a malignant brain tumor (a glioblastoma) intra-arterially.[4]
Biopharmaceutical industry
Since 2010 he has been a Member of the Scientific Advisory Board of ImmunoCellular Therapeutics.[5]
